The information on this website has been cobbled together from various sources. Much of it comes from online shops and auction listings. Below I will make note of prominent resources that I’ve used when researching blacksmith information

  • Tenmoku – Mark of Chisels – the owner of this shop has written a few articles about prominent blacksmiths with great information and history about many of them.
  • Kurashige Tools – this shop has detailed information for all of the tools they sell, including their backlog of sold items.
  • Japan Tool – lots of good information from Stuart Tierney. I think he stopped selling tools a few years back but his website is still an excellent resource.
  • 鑿 Nomi (Chisels): deciphering the kanji of different makers – A collection of makers from the Craftsmanship in Wood forum.

Some rather kind members from the Japanese tool community have sent me information and detailed photos to use for this page, I will list them below and provide a link to their work or website if they have one.
